fusion-text-1\"><h2><strong>Objetivos<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">El objetivo principal de este proyecto es ampliar el conocimiento sobre la ecolog\u00eda, distribuci\u00f3n y la tendencia poblacional de la serpiente Plato Negro (<em>Lachesis melanocephala<\/em>); para asegurar su conservaci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s de la conservaci\u00f3n ex situ.<\/p>\n<p>Para lograr nuestro objetivo principal estudiaremos aspectos b\u00e1sicos de la historia natural de la Plato Negro, asi como sus requerimientos de h\u00e1bitat, especialmente a trav\u00e9s de estudios de telemetr\u00eda y la descripci\u00f3n detallada de la vegetaci\u00f3n donde se encuentra.<\/p>\n<p>Paralelo a esto, se establecer\u00e1 un programa de cr\u00eda en cautiverio para la fusion-text-2\"><h2><strong>Historia Natural<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p class=\" translation-block\">El nombre cient\u00edfico de la Plato Negro es (<em>Lachesis melanocephala<\/em>), que se deriva del griego <i>Lachesis<\/i> lo que significa 'la personificaci\u00f3n del destino', <em>melanos<\/em> que significa 'negro' y <em>cephalo<\/em> que significa 'cabeza'. Es una de las v\u00edboras m\u00e1s grandes de Costa Rica y una de las serpientes venenosas m\u00e1s grandes del mundo, pueden alcanzar una longitud m\u00e1xima de 240 cm, y los machos crecen m\u00e1s que las hembras. Lo que hace especial a las serpientes del g\u00e9nero \"Lachesis\" es que son ov\u00edparas, es decir que ponen huevos que se incuban en el medio ambiente, esta es una caracter\u00edstica poco com\u00fan en las v\u00edboras de las Am\u00e9ricas. Los huevos se ponen en madrigueras abandonadas de mam\u00edferos y son protegidos por la \nnaturales de esta especie en la naturaleza, pero se ha registrado que es terrestre, crepuscular y nocturna.\nLa Plato Negro es la especie m\u00e1s rara de todos los Lachesis, esto debido a su rango de distribuci\u00f3n limitado. Su distribuci\u00f3n abarca la regi\u00f3n del Pac\u00edfico central, con un antiguo registro de Puriscal, hembra.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00fan se sabe poco sobre los h\u00e1bitos naturales de esta especie en la naturaleza, pero se ha registrado que es terrestre, crepuscular y nocturna.<\/p>\n<p>La Plato Negro es la especie m\u00e1s rara de todos los Lachesis, esto debido a su rango de distribuci\u00f3n limitado. Su distribuci\u00f3n abarca la regi\u00f3n del Pac\u00edfico central, con un antiguo registro de Puriscal, hacia el sur hasta la Pen\u00ednsula de Osa y \u00e1reas adyacentes, desde el nivel del mar hasta los 1600 m de altitud. Una mejor comprensi\u00f3n de la historia natural de la especie permite una adecuada estrategia de conservaci\u00f3n para la misma.<\/p>\n<p>Las Platos Negros son famosas por ser serpientes grandes, venenosas y agresivas. Por nuestra experiencia tanto en el campo como en cautiverio, y habiendo trabajado con diferentes individuos, llegamos a la conclusi\u00f3n de que esta \u00faltima afirmaci\u00f3n es incorrecta. Disipar los mitos al involucrar y educar a las comunidades locales y los propietarios de bosques es la clave para proteger a esta especie de la extinci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>La preservaci\u00f3n y restauraci\u00f3n del h\u00e1bitat es esencial para la conservaci\u00f3n de la especie y todos los dem\u00e1s organismos en su entorno.<\/p>\n<p>Se est\u00e1 estableciendo un programa de cr\u00eda en cautividad para garantizar la supervivencia de la especie en el futuro y garantizar la diversidad gen\u00e9tica de las poblaciones
